Introduction

Who is Chairman Krudd and what is he up to?

Chairman Krudd is Kevin Rudd, the Prime Minister of Australia. He wants to control what you do on the internet.

What Chairman Krudd plans to do is to require by law that all Australian ISPs must apply a filter to all internet connections in Australia. It will filter out a secret list of web pages, almost all of which have legal content.

The "filter" also sometimes goes by the Orwellian title of "clean feed". However let's call a spade a spade. It's "censorship". Plain and simple.

Censorship has its place in society but Chairman Krudd's plan goes way beyond what any western democracy has done. The country that we are emulating is China. (Curious coincidence?) Chairman Krudd's government has arrogantly refused to engage the Australian people in dialogue, to explain to them why Australia needs such an extreme internet censorship regime or needs an internet censorship regime at all.

Key features of Chairman Krudd's plan are:

  • The list is secret and the owner of a web site is not even notified when one of its pages is blocked.
  • The owner has no right to appeal to the government regarding the decision to block.
  • The owner cannot go to court to get the decision independently reviewed.

Does it even matter whether the web pages on the list have legal or illegal content, or whether they meet the criteria set by Chairman Krudd's government? The list is secret. You will never be sure whether the error your web browser is giving you is because the web site has a problem or because Chairman Krudd has decided that you can't view the web page.

All these points and more are discussed in the various pages on this web site.
